🌸 BloombyBunches Flower Care Guide

For Fresh-Cut Wholesale Flowers

Your fresh flowers have taken a journey from the farm to your door—and they need just a little love to bloom beautifully. This guide outlines how to care for your blooms to ensure they hydrate, open, and last their longest.

🌿 General Flower Care (All Varieties)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Unbox Immediately

    • Flowers are perishable—remove them from the shipping box within 1 hour of delivery.

    • Do not store flowers in the box overnight.

  2. Hydrate Right Away

    • Recut stems at a 45° angle under clean water.

    • Place them in clean, room-temperature water immediately after cutting.

    • Use flower food if provided.

  3. Sanitize Everything

    • Use clean buckets, vases, and tools—any leftover soap or bacteria can harm your blooms.

    • Never reuse dirty floral buckets without scrubbing.

  4. Remove Foliage Below Waterline

    • Leaves submerged in water create bacteria and shorten vase life. Strip these before placing in water.

  5. Keep in a Cool, Shaded Area

    • Avoid direct sunlight, heaters, fruit bowls (they emit ethylene gas), and strong drafts.

  6. Let Them Rest

    • Let flowers rest in water for at least 4–6 hours before arranging. Some may take overnight to perk up.

🌹 Roses

Care Tips:

  • Keep roses in their protective cardboard sleeve for the first hour of hydration to help them hydrate upright.

  • After an hour, remove wrapping and guard petals (the outermost petals may appear discolored or bruised—this is normal).

  • Use one bucket per bunch—roses need space to hydrate evenly and open fully.

Troubleshooting:

  • Opening too slowly? Place in a warm room or near indirect sunlight. You can also gently spin the rose upside down between your palms to encourage opening.

  • Opening too fast? Move to a cooler area to slow the bloom.

💧 Hydrangea

Care Tips:

  • Hydrangeas are heavy drinkers—check water levels daily and refill often.

  • Remove all plastic or netting immediately after unpacking.

  • If flowers appear wilted, give a deep cut (2 inches or more) and submerge the entire head in cool water for 30 minutes to revive them.

Important:

  • Not ideal for foam installations unless added just before the event.

🌸 Scabiosa

Care Tips:

  • Delicate stems benefit from added support—if wrapped with plastic straws, leave them on.

  • Use a tall vase if straws are not provided.

  • Keep away from heat and direct sun, which shortens vase life.

Notes:

  • Buds that don't open are still valuable for texture in arrangements.

🌺 Peonies

Care Tips:

  • Closed peonies? Gently peel 2–3 outer petals and place them in warm water or in a warm room to speed opening.

  • Let them hydrate in their own vase to prevent petal bruising.

  • Coral varieties open quickly—refrigerate once they open to your desired stage.

🌼 Anemones

Care Tips:

  • Very delicate—assign a separate vase for best results.

  • Light bruising or petal spotting is normal and often not visible in photos.

  • They may arrive with some stem breakage—expect a few losses per bunch.

Pro Tip:

  • Place in lukewarm water to encourage opening. Once opened, refrigerate to prolong life.

🌷 Ranunculus

Care Tips:

  • These have top-heavy blooms and often need floral wire support.

  • Keep in a short vase—no higher than the bloom head—to prevent drooping.

  • Place in a bright, but indirect sunlit area to encourage blooms to open.

🏵 Carnations & Mini Carnations

Care Tips:

  • Extremely hardy—perfect for event work.

  • If flowers are too tight, gently fluff the petals open with your fingers.

  • Remove lower blooms and use for boutonnieres or small arrangements.

Bonus:

  • Snapped stems? No worries—use them for cake flowers or corsages.

💚 Greenery

Care Tips:

  • Give each stem a fresh cut and remove all foliage below the water line.

  • Some greenery may have minor blemishes or insect holes—these are natural and won’t show in designs.

  • Store loose greens in plastic bags in the fridge up to 2 days before your event.

❄️ Refrigeration Guidelines (If Needed)

  • Fridge Temp: Set your fridge to the warmest setting (ideally around 4°C or 40°F).

  • Keep flowers away from walls or vents to prevent freezing.

  • Remove all fruits and vegetables—they emit ethylene gas, which ages flowers rapidly.

  • Only refrigerate if necessary; many blooms do better in a cool room.

⚠️ Reminder: Expect 5–10% Stem Loss

Flowers are a natural product. A small percentage of blooms may arrive damaged, not hydrate properly, or not meet design quality standards. This is normal and reflected in our wholesale pricing. These stems are great for practice or filler work.
